Some of Animal Rescue, Incs. dogs are rescued from puppy mills. The puppy mill industry is known for over-breeding popular pure and mixed breed dogs that are sent to pet stores to be sold to the public. Many of the dogs living and breeding in these mills get very little human interaction, and for some, this attention is highly negative. Depending on the mill from which they came, some dogs will be more personable while others will run away from an approaching person, or bite if they are cornered and frightened. These dogs have spent most of their lives in small, contained spaces and will need patient, loving and understanding owners to teach them to trust humans. They will also need assistance in being housetrained and learning about the sights and sounds home life. Many puppy mill dogs will do better in a low-key household with an individual or couple who will have a great deal of time to spend with them. They require an additional dog in the family who can teach them that interacting with humans is pleasing and rewarding. These dogs require a fenced-in yard that is attached to the house, as these dogs have no common sense and if frightened, will run away and not be recalled.
Having a puppy mill dog is a challenge that is well worth the reward, but please consider your commitment before adopting. Our rescue is happy to work with those who are interested!
